our wish list

The Naples Lions Club Foundation funds all of our community service programs. We also undertake online giving campaigns and in-person events (like Casino Night) to raise money for our programs. Below is our wish list of ways in which you can help us serve the community.

Scholarships

The Naples Lions Club (NLC) provides scholarships for nursing students.  Each student must pay $400 to take the Licensure Exam. This is a hardship for many students. We have increased the number of scholarships this year to 13 from last year’s 7 because there is a great need. The cost per scholarship =$400. The wish is for 4 more  scholarships@$400=$1600.

Reading Action Program

Naples Lions provide a free book to preschool students at our screenings to encourage parents to read with their children. We have 200 books to give out this year but need 600. The cost per book =$2.50.  The Wish is for 400 books x $250 = $1000.

Eye Exams and Glasses

NLC assists adults and children in getting eye exams and glasses. We pay $90 for a complete eye exam and pair of glasses. We buy 4-5 pair a year. The wish is to provide 15 exams and glasses @ $90 = $1350.

Eye Surgery Assistance

NLC works with the Florida Lions Eye Clinic in providing exams, and the Florida Lions Foundation for the Blind with funding for needed eye surgeries.  While the cost of a surgery is often $3000, we are required to pay a $200 down payment for the patient to get the surgery.  The wish is to provide 2-4 additional cases yearly @ $200 = $400.

Hearing Aids

Many adults and children need assistance getting hearing aids. NLC helps 2-4 people a year by paying the $250 cost, after the Foundation approval.  The demand is much greater. We would like to provide an additional 6-8 hearing aids. The wish is for 8 pairs @ $250 = $2000.

Legacy of Care

Our unique scholarship will provide tuition and living expenses for a first generation US resident medical school student who, after earning the M.D. degree, will practice medicine for 4 years in an underserved community somewhere in the world.  The approximate level of funding for one scholarship is $250,000. The wish is for $5,000 to $10,000 donations

Screening Equipment

We need replacements for two vision field testers (FDTs) @ $3000 each and a replacement SPOT Vision Screener @ $8,000.  The wish is for $3,000 to $8,000 donations.

Donations (other than wish list items)

No donation is too small. Every dollar helps us serve those in need.

Membership

The NLC always wants and needs new members to help us serve our community. We need volunteers to help at our Preschool and Community Vision, Hearing and Diabetes Screenings. No experience is needed. We are working to develop new Lions Clubs in Immokalee, and Golden Gate. We are also establishing a Leo Club in a Collier County High School. Learn more about volunteering here.
